On Saturday, February 9th, RSIR’s own Dean and Stacy Jones rang in the Year of the Snake as guests of Citi Private Bank at the 2013 Chinese Lunar New Year Black Tie Gala. The gala was sponsored by the Hong Kong Association of Washington (HKAW Foundation) and the Bruce Lee Foundation.

A glamorous time was had by all. Guests arrived to find the Sheraton Hotel, where the event was held, flanked with Ferraris, Aston Martins, and Lamborghinis, proudly on display by event sponsors. But the real show was inside, where the rhythmic beating of drums was heard all night long, the soundtrack to a full evening that featured dragon dancing, both a silent and live auction, and a fashion show of Luly Yang evening wear. The crowd was dressed in a stunning mix of black tie apparel and traditional Chinese clothing, and was a Who’s Who of the Greater Seattle community. Miss Washington was in attendance, as well as the mayor and the city council. Even Gary and Mona Locke chimed in from Beijing. Dean and Stacy enjoyed the company of their own auspicious fellow-attendees, Nancy and Mark Pellegrino, and Rose and Frank Dennis.

Although it was a lighthearted night, the gala had a very serious purpose, to celebrate Asian culture and continue to strengthen the east-west bond. Proceeds from the evening went to benefit the Bruce Lee Foundation, in support of its goal of building the Bruce Lee Action Museum here in Seattle. The museum aims to not only preserve and chronicle the global icon’s innumerable contributions to and accomplishments in martial arts, but will also memorialize Bruce Lee’s legacy as a pioneering man who broke down once insurmountable barriers and racial stereotypes.
